CLASSE ARTIGLIERE

Il 6 ottobre del 1949, nel corso della Guerra Fredda, il Presidente degli Stati Uniti Harry S. Truman firmò il “Mutual Defense Assistance Act” legge che permetteva di fornire aiuti militari ai propri alleati. Tale legge si sostanziò in un piano di aiuti che prese il nome di Mutual Defense Assistance Program (MDAP) che permise all’Italia di acquisire, il 1 gennaio 1951, di cacciatorpediniere ARTIGLIERE ex USS Woodworth (DD-460 ed AVIERE ex USS Nicholson (DD-442) che si andarono ad affiancare al Granatiere, Carabiniere e Grecale sopravvissuti alla II G.M. Con l’entrata dell’Italia nella NATO queste due unità ex USA presero rispettivamente i distintivi ottici D 553 e D 554.

On October 6 1949, during the Cold War, the President of the United States of America Harry S. Truman signed the law “Mutual Defense Assistance Act” which allowed to provide their own Allies with military supplies. This law substanced in a helping plan whose name was Mutual Defense Assistance Program (MDAP). By this law Italy could acquire on January 1 1951 the destroyers ARTIGLIERE (ex USS Woodworth DD 460) and AVIERE (ex USS Nicholson DD 442) which added to Granatiere, Carabiniere and Grecale survived to WWII. When Italy joined NATO, these two destroyers got respectively the optical marks D553 and D554.
