CLASSE FANTE

Three destroyers, former belonging to US Navy, formed Fante Class:
D 561 Fante (ex.DD-517 Walker),
D 560 Lanciere (Ex USS TAYLOR DD-468),
D 555 Geniere (USS PRITCHETT DD-561).
These ships, with a length of 115 meters and a load displacement of over 3000 tons, were part of Fletcher Class, built in different US shipyards in 175 specimens. Out of these, 55 were handed over to other Navies and the ones for Italian Navy, at the end of sixties, had conducted a very great activity for 23 years, mainly in mayor conflicts in the late forties and early fifties: WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Ragged and outdated, nearing the end of their operational lifetime, they served in M.M.I. just over five years. Lanciere, particularly, was used as spare parts bank for the other two which were decommissioned in 1975.
