CLASSE Q. SELLA

La classe Quintino Sella, fu costruita dai Cantieri Pattinson di Napoli tra il 1926/27. Composta da quattro Unità : FRANCESCO CRISPI, GIOVANNI NICOTERA, BETTINO RICASOLI e QUNTINO SELLA.
Due unità della classe, nel 1940, il NICOTERA e il RICASOLI furono ceduti alla Svezia nel quadro di un acquisto di 2 cacciatorpediniere e 2 torpediniere. Il NICOTERA e il RICASOLI che furono ribattezzati rispettivamente con i nomi di PSILANDER e PUKE, furono radiati e demoliti il primo nel 1949 e il secondo nel 1947.
Solo Il CRISPI e il SELLA parteciparono attivamente per la Regia Marina alle operazioni navali della II G.M.
Ebbero poca fortuna alla proclamazione dell’armistizio: Il SELLA fu silurato appena fuori la laguna veneta, in navigazione per Taranto dalla motosilurante tedesca S 54, l’11 settembre del 1943 mentre il CRISPI catturato dai tedeschi e incorporato nella Kriegsmarine con il nome di TA 15, affondò al Pireo a seguito di un attacco aereo inglese il 12 ottobre 1944.

Quintino Sella class was built by Pattison Shipyards in Naples in 1926/1927. It was formed by four ships: FRANCESCO CRISPI, GIOVANNI NICOTERA, BETTINO RICASOLI e QUNTINO SELLA. In 1940 NICOTERA and RICASOLI were transferred to Sweden according to the purchase of two destroyers and two torpedo boats. Renamed PSILANDER e PUKE were decommissioned and demolished, the first one in 1949 and the second one in 1947.
Only CRISPI and SELLA took operative part on behalf of Royal Italian Navy to WWII. They were unlucky at the armistice announcement: CRISPI, annexed to Kriegsmarine renamed TA 15, sank at Pireo owing to an air attack on October 12 1944, whereas SILLA was torpedoed out of the lagoon of Venice heading to Taranto by the German motor torpedo boat S 54, on September 11 1943.
