Between 1951 and 1954 the Grecale was refitted as an antisubmarine frigate, with improved a/a weapons and electronics; she was rebuilt again in 1959-1960 as a command ship, disembarking all armament minus a twin 40 mm Bofors light a/a gun mount. The forecastle was extended aft, thus incorporating the aft deckhouse, a new bridge was fitted and a Combat Information Center (Centrale Operativa Combattimento) and extra inner command areas were now found inside the hull. In this photograph, Grecale is shown in 1963 at Malta: she operated as a command ship until 1964, and she was stricken and broken up in 1965.
