At right, Carabiniere at Messina in March 1942, with a temporary bow fitted after she lost her original bow having been torpedoed by HMS P.36 south of Cape Spartivento; in April 1942 Carabiniere left Messina under her own power and on 11 April arrived at Leghorn, where at the O.T.O. yard she was fitted with the bow of the Carrista (second series), then under construction. At left, Geniere with an experimental camouflage pattern, dark grey overall with bow and stern painted light grey.
