On 10th August 1942 the royal Italian Navy submarine Scirè of the X° Flotilla MAS, after the Gibraltar and Alexandria successes where in the Egyptian harbour were sunken two British battleships the Valiant and the Queen Elizabeth, was getting ready to attack the Haifa harbour, then under the British control, with eleven frog men (called gamma men) aboard. Unfortunately, over her the hell broke out: enemy coast artillery and ships were on alert, the Haifa naval base was informed about the raid, because the British secret services deciphered the messages between the Italian and German forces. The IANTD Expeditions recently found evidences in the British Archives. At the end of a merciless hunt, the Scirè was sunk with its commander Bruno Zelik and all her hands of seamen and frog men aboard. After many years, the Israeli u/w archaeologist Ehud Galili, called the media attention about the wreck conditions with its human remains. In 1984 the Italian Navy accomplished an expedition with the aim to recover the bodies’ remains of the fallen and in 2002 another one to definitely seal the entrances into the wreck. Now this submarine, Italian gold medal to the flag, is definitively entered into the history and by now is one among the naval units most popular in the world.
